∎ The 9th conference of the “EUROPE-INBO” Group of the European Basin Organizations for the implementation of the Water Framework Directive
will take place on 27, 28, 29 and 30 September 2011, in Oporto (Portugal),
at the invitation of the Portuguese water authorities and the North Water District Administration
-› The previous "EUROPE-INBO" : 2004 in Krakow (Poland), 2005 in Namur (Walloon Region), 2006 in Megeve (France), 2007 in Rome (Italy), 2008 in Sibiu (Romania), 2009 in Stockholm (Sweden) and 2010 in Mégève (France)
This Oporto conference is part of the European Regional Preparatory Process of the 6th World Water Forum to be held in Marseilles – France from 12 to 17 March 2012.

∎ « Handbook on water resources management in transboundary river basins »
INBO is jointly preparing with GWP, UNESCO, UNECE, AFD and GEF a new handbook on IWRM in transboundary river basins, following the first volume which was already published in 2009 at the Forum of Istanbul and which was an enormous world success.
This handbook will be presented at the 6th World Water Forum of Marseilles in March 2012, please send to us by return your case studies, your solutions and recommendations.

The implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) and its daughter directives, as well as the Floods Directive, is not a “Business-as-usual approach” and constitutes an exceptional challenge to water managers and governments across Europe. Assessments of the current status of implementation have shown that less than 40% of water bodies will meet the Good Ecological Status in 2015
